Luminaries DEI Winner

On November 8, 2022, at an awards ceremony in Washington DC, Spectra Credit Union was named the winner of the 2022 CU Times Luminaries Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the institutional category. This award recognizes organizations that go above and beyond to emphasize the importance of inclusivity at every level.

“I’m honored to receive this award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to DEI,” said Kristin Shultz, CEO. “This is not a new initiative for us. Spectra has been and always will be, committed to leading the way in the financial industry as a torchbearer for DEI.”

Spectra’s identity is rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. In fact, more than 60% of the staff is comprised of people of color, and 65% are women, including the CEO. Spectra has pledged to invest resources to ensure the credit union stays ahead of the curve regarding hiring practices, management, and all facets of employee engagement.

Spectra’s HR Director is “DEI Certified” by Cornell University and leads the credit union’s internal efforts. Meanwhile, the marketing team ensures all materials are translated into Spanish, including the website, and community outreach includes diverse underserved communities throughout the year.

In all, the credit union partnered with 33 different local non-profit organizations, donated 592 hours in employee volunteer time, collected and circulated 80 different books showcasing multicultural authors and content, assisted 4,194 individuals and 1,170 families with food, toys, coats, and socks, as well as contributing more than $15,000 in charitable donations.
