We stand up for diversity, equity, and inclusion and we’re committed to reaching out to the underserved and underbanked. See how we’re putting our philosophy into action.
Our identity is rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. In fact, more than 60% of our staff is made up of people of color. 65% are women. And unlike 80% of credit unions our size, we are led by a dynamic female CEO. In 2020, we pledged to invest resources to ensure we stay ahead of the curve in terms of hiring practices, management, and all facets of employee engagement. This effort is led by our HR Director who is “DEI Certified” by Cornell University. However, this is not a new initiative for Spectra; we are, and have always been, committed to leading the way in the financial industry as a torchbearer for DEI.
When it comes to corporate culture, our goal is to keep our employees happy so they are able to consistently provide a “Brilliant Banking” experience to our members. It all starts with empowering our team to make decisions. We also give our employees freedom to be individuals. We believe in flexible schedules and teleworking, if a position allows for it. Our culture is family-oriented, so we believe in work/life balance. We also want our workplace to be fun, and you can bet our “FUNkadelics Committee” keeps us smiling. And when it comes to money, our team is compensated well, and everyone is eligible for an annual bonus based on organizational goals.
Beyond our day-to-day “brilliant banking” efforts, our team strives to make a difference year-round through Community Outreach. Each year, we provide employees with 40 hours of paid time to volunteer in the community for a total of more than 3500 hours and $100,000 in paid time!
Spectra recognizes educators with its Stellar Educator Award who inspire students directly in the classroom, through school-wide leadership, or via experimental strategies to reach students.
On a regular basis, our team collects food for local food banks and shelters that help families experiencing food insecurity. We want to do our part to help our community live happy, healthy lives.
Throughout the year, we will collect and distribute books that showcase the multicultural communities we serve in celebration of national awareness campaigns.
Spectra is an annual, top-level supporter of the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, DC benefiting Credit Union Miracle Day. The funds ultimately support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNHs) under the umbrella of the national Credit Unions for Kids campaign. Since 1996, Credit Unions for Kids has raised $160 million for CMNHs making it the third-largest corporate donor to CMNHs.
